… including a handy USB access extension cable behind the desk. While it has better performance than the NSLU2 it is less reliable when torrenting, often locking up for a minute or so. If my SSH session survives this lock up then I can see the upload and download rates drop to zero when it comes back and then slowly creep back up. The moral is that it can only handle so many active torrents. Apparently to do with the USB and ethernet being on the same bus.

Dial-up Internet going through a SheevaPlug all running off solar power in a remote mountain cabin.
I am excited to have started using the new git-annex assistant, written by Joey, as of yesterday evening. I received an external HDD for my birthday tomorrow and this means I don't want to manage my git-annex repository completely manually anymore. I've taught git-annex where I want stuff to be stored and it's keeping it in the right places for me.
My laptop's hard drive is no longer in danger of running out of space, which is great.

Old IBM ThinkPad X31 which I abused for years … [g]ot doused in coffee and coke … [h]as been invaded (as in "filled to the brim") by Indian ants which ate out all the coffee and coke over about a week of constant occupation (even while the machine was running; I had no choice) years later
